Welcome to a Parents Special Needs Home Page

Contact: Alan E. Duncan (Father of Alex) at AEDuncan@AutoAnalytics.com

The purpose of this home page is to share the experience of dealing with the Birmingham School System in Michigan to advocate for my son's special needs to maximize his educational  potential.

The present school system is not "special needs parent friendly" and requires parents to be full time advocates in order to get any reasonable consideration by the school system to accommodate our special children's needs.  System's that are provided such as IEP Complaint and Due Process are ineffective and biased in favor of the educational institutions.  The proof of this will be made within this web site.  The complete data from my experience will be presented so each parent can make up his own mind as to whether we parents are playing on a level field with the school administrators who we pay taxes to for service.

I have worked at many stages and over an extended period of time in order to resolve issues in a reasonable fashion and I have documented my experience and intend to present my case for the way things are on this web site.  I have gone as far as entering Due Process and requesting a review of the Due Process when it's ruling did not seem reasonable.  I have had to question the Review process itself and the State of Michigan Dept. of Education's interpretation of the law when it just did not seem reasonable and was counter to the principles of the special ed. legal foundations from IDEA.   I hope my experience will help those who follow after me to have the courage and confidence to ask for what they deserve for their children and, like me, be able to fight the bureaucracy when they are not accountable for their actions.
